    Trampoline Safety Guide for Families

A short list of house rules. BERG's manual for your model comes first.

Trampoline safety comes down to a few rules, agreed before the first jump and kept every time after.

This is general, common-sense advice. It is not a substitute for BERG's manual, which gives the instructions for your particular model. Where the two differ, follow the manual.

    The rules

    1

    One jumper at a time

One person on the mat at a time, every time.

    2

    An adult watching young children

Young children should have an adult supervising whenever they are on the trampoline.

    3

    No somersaults without coaching

Somersaults and flips are for children who have been taught them by a coach. On a garden trampoline, without that coaching, they are off limits.

    4

    Keep the area clear

Nothing around the trampoline that someone could land on, and nothing underneath it: no toys, bikes, pets or people.

    5

Check it before it is used

Look over the net, mat, springs and padding regularly. If something is worn or damaged, nobody jumps until it is replaced.

    6

Not when it is wet or windy

Do not use the trampoline when the mat is wet or in high wind.

    7

If it has a net, close it

On a trampoline with a safety net, close the entrance once the jumper is inside.

Nets, and how the trampoline sits

Above-ground trampolines are all sold with a safety net. InGround and FlatGround models are sold with or without one, so whether to have a net is a choice you make when you order.

A FlatGround trampoline sits level with the lawn, so there is no step up and no ladder. An InGround is set into the lawn with a low raised edge. An above-ground trampoline stands on legs.

Which suits your family depends on the ages of the children and on the garden. We talk that through in the free garden consultation.

    Keeping it in good order

A trampoline is only as sound as its parts. Replace anything worn with a genuine BERG part made for your model; we keep them in stock. The maintenance guide lists what to look at.

    Questions

Can two children use a trampoline at the same time?

The general rule is one jumper at a time. BERG's manual for your model sets out how it should be used.

Does every BERG trampoline come with a safety net?

No. Above-ground models are all sold with a safety net. InGround and FlatGround models are sold with or without one, depending on the model.

Should my child do flips on a garden trampoline?

Not without coaching. Somersaults should be learned with a coach before they are tried at home.

Is it all right to jump in the rain?

No. Do not use a trampoline when the mat is wet or in high wind.
